Student Testimonials

"Ace is awesome. They were so patient with me and my fiancé and made us feel super comfortable. They make dancing fun and easy!"
- Beth H via The Knot
"Ace as an instructor is patient, kind, encouraging, and super helpful. They know how to both explain AND show moves (something not everyone can do well), and they follow up each lesson with the moves we learned in an email so we could also practice on our own. I highly, highly, highly recommend getting dancing lessons with Ace!!! They are truly the best!!!"
- Laura S via The Knot
"Never in a million years did I think I could enjoy dancing, but Ace made the experience very fun. They are an excellent teacher who knows how to work with complete beginners and make them feel comfortable."
- Chris F via The Knot
"From the start, Ace was attentive with consistent communication and really understood us as a couple and what we were looking for in our first dance. My husband and I found their approach very easy going which helped the two of us relax to truly get the most out of our lessons. We had numerous wedding guests of ours tell us that our first dance was the best they have ever seen and it’s all thanks to Ace."

Meet Your Instructor

Hi! I'm Ace Jones-Taylor and I'm excited to share the joy and connection that dancing can bring into our lives. Here are a few things you might like to know about me:

I Love Working with Beginners
My personal goal as a teacher is to make even the most nervous new dancer feel welcomed and capable. Two left feet? Not a problem!

Fostering Connection and Joy
While I teach over 15 partnered dance styles, including Latin, Country, Swing, Blues, and Ballroom, my speciality is wedding dance lessons and date nights. I love helping couples connect with each other through dance!

Experience Beyond Texas
I’ve been teaching dance professionally since 2012 and have had the honor of instructing at festivals worldwide, including NYC, Denver, Chicago, LA, Pittsburgh, Quebec City, and Seoul, South Korea.

Off the Dance Floor
I’m a huge nerd who loves cooperative board games, cooking up new dishes, tending to my jungle of houseplants, and spending time with my cat, Bug. You’ll also often find me photographing shows around town or doing portrait sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is each lesson?
Each lesson lasts 60 minutes.
How do I schedule my first lesson?
Use the contact form to send an inquiry, including days and times that you're generally available.  I will follow up with you within a day or two.
How do I pay for lessons?
There is a deposit to book your first class, which can be paid via Venmo or CashApp. The remainder for your lesson pacakge is due at your first class. I accept cash, check, Venmo, or CashApp.
What type of shoes should I wear?
The studio is primarily shoes-off (bring socks!), though I can accommodate shoes other than stilettos or thin heels.
Do lessons expire when you buy a package?
Yes, but only after a full year has passed since purchase. That should be more than enough time to complete the lessons in any package, no matter how busy your schedule is.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to reschedule your appointment, please give me at least 24 hours' notice so we can find another day that works. Canceling with less than 24 hours' notice will result in the loss of that lesson.
What do I need to know about working with you on a first dance?
First, we'll schedule our first lesson together. You can use my contact form to get started.

For couples preparing for their first dance, we'll discuss music choices before our first lesson. I like to at least have it narrowed down to a couple of songs in advance, and I'm happy to help with this.

During our first lesson, we'll lay the foundation —how to connect, move, and learn some basic vocabulary. In the next few lessons, we'll add more advanced moves and fine-tune what you've already learned. Depending on how elaborate you want your first dance to be, you might choose a package with more lessons. In our final lesson, we'll add the finishing touches and practice, practice, practice.
What styles of dance can I learn ?
I teach over 15 styles of dance in a variety of genres: Latin, Country-Western, Ballroom, Swing, and more. You can find out more about each dance on the Find Your Style page.
Should I tip my instructor?
Tips are never expected but always appreciated.
Are LGBTQ+ folks welcome?
Yes, absolutely! Ace Dances is proudly queer-owned and deeply committed to inclusivity. No matter your sexuality or gender identity, you are warmly welcomed here. If you feel comfortable, please provide your pronouns on the Contact Form or the Intake Form (there’s a field for them). If there’s anything else I can do to make your learning environment more comfortable, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Add an Engagement or Portrait Photoshoot

In addition to dance instruction, I’m also a professional portrait photographer. My work focuses on capturing authentic connections, movement, and play, helping you see and celebrate your best, truest self. I’m available for headshots, family photos, engagement shoots, and more.

You can explore more of my work on my  photography website. Below are some images I’ve taken of my clients.
